Delivery Checklist
Though not every delivery is an unexpected rush to the emergency room, it’s always a good idea to be prepared. About six weeks before your due date, pack a small bag to bring to the hospital. Tell your spouse or birth helper where the bag is, so he or she can grab it at a moment’s notice. Here are a few things we at Siloam Springs Regional Hospital think you might want available on the big day:
- Picture ID (driver license)
- Your insurance information
- A nightgown, underwear, robe, socks and slippers for mom
- Essential toiletries (toothbrush/paste, shampoo, razor, hair dryer, etc.)
- A pillow and blanket if a partner plans to spend the night
- A nursing bra and nursing pads
- Nursing pillow (This can be used if you are breastfeeding or bottle feeding; either way they help reduce the strain on your arms, neck, and back when feeding your baby.)
- Loose clothes for mom’s ride home (Choose one that fit when you were around 6 months pregnant.)
- Clothes for the baby (perhaps an outfit for photos or for the ride home)
- Baby’s blanket – newborns love to be swaddled
- Sratch mittens for baby (These protect newborns from doing any harm to themselves with their nails.)
- Newborn diapers
- Properly installed car seat for baby’s ride home (These are required in Arkansas.)
