Northwest Health Supports Breast Cancer Awareness Month
10/11/2019
This October, Northwest Health is proud to participate in National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast cancer is one of the most common kinds of cancer in women after skin cancer.
To encourage more women to take action for their breast health, Northwest Health is extending their mammography hours during the month of October. Women will be able to make an appointment on Saturday, Oct. 12 or Oct. 19, making it even more convenient to get their mammogram.
And for women who may be fearful or evade the exam altogether, we have a Pink Party on Oct. 10 from 4 p.m.-7 p.m. at Siloam Springs Regional Hospital. This special event is to help women reduce fears, learn more about the importance of mammograms and make the screening process fun.
The Pink Party will feature health and beauty pampering, a vendor expo, tours of the hospital's imaging department and a "mammothon". The event is FREE and open to women of all ages. Mammography technicians will be on hand to explain how screening equipment works, walk guests through a typical patient experience highlighting some of the special amenities offered and answer any questions they may have. To register or for more information, call (479) 215-3125.
Screening mammograms will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. An order from a physician or qualified healthcare provider is not required, but the patient must provide a physician/provider name when an appointment is made. All mammogram reports will be sent to the physician/provider, and the patient is responsible for follow-up. Patients should check with their insurance provider to confirm coverage for a screening mammogram. For American College of Radiology recommendations, visit www.acr.org.
For women of average risk, the American College of Radiology recommends annual mammograms starting at age 40, with no upper age limit as long as the woman is in good health. Different guidelines apply to women at higher risk. A screening mammogram can help detect breast cancer in its earliest and most treatable stages.
The good news is that most women can survive breast cancer if it’s found and treated early.
Call (479) 757-4135 to schedule a mammogram at Northwest Medical Center-Bentonville or Northwest Breast Imaging Center at Willow Creek. Call (479) 215-3420 to schedule a mammogram at Siloam Springs Regional Hospital.
