Have a Wound? Wound Care is Essential
1/3/2024
BENTONVILLE, Ark. (Jan. 3, 2024) – Chronic wounds affect an estimated 8.2 million Americans, and the number continues to climb. Specialized wound care, though, not only speeds healing but also helps prevent infection and limb loss. In fact, one study found that patients who attended regularly scheduled wound care visits had a 25% lower hospital readmission rate.
This reinforces what Northwest Medical Center – Bentonville Wound & Hyperbaric Center staff already knows – wound care is essential to the health and well-being of patients with wounds.
“Now, more than ever, we need to remind providers and patients alike of the importance of regularly scheduled wound care visits in order to protect the health of these patients and prevent an escalation of their disease,” said Lianna Johnston, Northwest Medical Center – Bentonville Wound & Hyperbaric Center’s program director.
The center recommends patients call for an appointment if they are experiencing any of the following:
- An existing, slow-to-heal or non-healing wound
- Foot or leg ulcer or wound
- Non-healing, post-surgical wound
- Non-healing skin graft or surgical flap
- Symptoms occurring on or around a point of radiation (such as pain, rectal or bladder bleeding)
- Bone infection, also called osteomyelitis
- Crush injury
Northwest Medical Center – Bentonville Wound & Hyperbaric Center treats patients with non-healing wounds. The team features clinicians with advanced training in wound care and hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy.
