BiographySteven E. Kempson, M.D., is a board-certified family practitioner affiliated with Northwest Medical Plaza - Westside. He completed his undergraduate degree at Arkansas College (now Lyon College) in Batesville, AR, and then earned his medical degree from University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock. Dr. Kempson spent 20 years in private practice in Texarkana as well as one year in an urgent care setting in NW Arkansas before joining Northwest Medical Plaza-Westside in 2017.
Dr. Kempson has wanted to be a doctor for as long as he can remember. He grew up in a small town in East Arkansas called Bald Knob, where visits with his local doctor inspired him. It was a one doctor little town, and he thought the doctor could do anything.
Dr. Kempson decided to focus on family medicine because it allows him to see a wide range of ages and see many different situations and ailments. He believes it is important for him as a doctor to sit with his patients and listen to them, so he can help them reach their healthcare goals. He likes to focus on preventive care, such as cholesterol management, cancer screenings, mammograms and other preventive exams. The most fulfilling part of his job, he says, is watching a patient’s quality of life improve.
Dr. Kempson has three daughters. One is a teacher, another is a student at the University of Arkansas and the other is a recent college graduate. Personally, he describes himself as a “sports nut,” as someone who loves all sports and is a big Razorbacks fan. Professional affiliations include the American Academy of Family Physicians and Arkansas Medical Society.
