Prenatal Fitness Classes
A healthy pregnancy is our goal for you at the Family Birth Place! Exercise can help with some common discomforts as well as prepare you for labor. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists recommends that most pregnant women participate in 30 minutes or more of moderate exercise** on most, if not all, days of the week. Our professionally trained yoga instructors and Dancing Thru Pregnancy instructors are here to provide a fun way to stay healthy in pregnancy and meet other expectant mothers in the process.
**Before you begin any exercise program, remember it is important to talk to your healthcare provider and make sure the activity you plan is appropriate for your body and your pregnancy.
Some tips and basic guidelines from our Prenatal Fitness instructors:
- Wear loose fitting or comfortable clothes and a good supportive bra
- Drink plenty of water before, during and after your workout
- After doing floor exercises, get up slowly and gradually to prevent dizziness
- Try not to eat a heavy meal at least one hour before exercising
Dancing Thru Pregnancy – Every Thursday from 7:15 p.m. - 8 p.m.
If the last time you danced was in your second-grade ballet recital or at your best friend's bachelorette party, pregnancy just might be the time to try it again! For women whose providers have medically cleared them to exercise during pregnancy, dance can be a great alternative to the usual prescriptions of yoga and walking. Come have some fun getting sweaty and moving to the music with our Dancing Thru Pregnancy instructors! This class is free.
The benefits of Dancing During Pregnancy may include:
- Relief from pregnancy-related discomforts
- Improved stamina before, during and after labor
- Reduction in the need for medical intervention during labor and birth
- Shortening of the postpartum recovery period
