Dancing Thru Pregnancy fitness classes start Jan. 10
1/10/2019
As part of its mission to provide effective programs for moms-to-be, new moms and babies, the Family Birth Place at Northwest Medical Center – Bentonville will offer Dancing Thru Pregnancy’s Total Pregnancy Fitness program beginning Thursday, Jan. 10. It’s the first hospital in Arkansas to be licensed as a provider.
Dancing Thru Pregnancy classes will meet 7:15-8 p.m. Thursday evenings in Classrooms A-B, across from the hospital’s cafeteria. Classes are based on dance, yoga, principles of strength training and cardiovascular fitness, mindfulness and relaxation skills, as well as observations of effective movement patterns in labor, birth and recovery.
“We’re very excited to offer this class to expectant mothers in our community,” said Whitney Tolbert, director of the Family Birthplace. “Not only does it offer exercise and promote good health, but it also gives moms a chance to get together and share their pregnancy experiences with one another.”
The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists recommends most pregnant women participate in 30 minutes or more of moderate exercise on most, if not all, days of the week. For women whose doctors have medically cleared them to exercise during pregnancy, dance can be a great alternative to the usual prescriptions of yoga and walking.
