With greater emphasis on outpatient care, Northwest Health System has 7 surgical suites to complement our private prep rooms, an endoscopy suite and an 8 bed recovery area. Family members can enjoy free wireless Internet connectivity or watch television in our waiting rooms, which are staffed by a hospital volunteer to ensure your family stays informed. All this means more timely and complete care for you and your family.
Advanced Laparoscopy
Laparoscopic surgery involves a technique making small incisions and inserting long metal tubes (called endoscopes). This allows diseased areas to be seen and operated upon. Everything from fiber-optic cameras to lasers are utilized during these procedures.
Although the surgery often takes longer, risk is minimized since the operation is not open. In addition, many hours of surgical training and specialization result in array of benefits for the patient, including a shorter time in the hospital, less pain and scarring, and quicker recovery.
First in the United States
In October 2006, Northwest Medical Center – Bentonville became the first hospital in the United States to insert a ScVO2 probe. The procedure was performed by pulmonologist Dr. Edward L. Jackson.
Artificial Dsk Replacement (ADR)
An artificial disc is a device that is implanted into the spine to replace a degenerative disc. The regular function of the disc is to carry weight and allow motion. A disc is the soft cushioning structure between the individual bones of the spine. Artificial discs are often made of metal and plastic-like (biopolymer) materials, or a combination of the two.
